...AND a Country Star? (*not where its at)

So I went to see Steve Earle play an acoustic show last night at the STATE Theater in downtown State College. Steve's set started out with classics such as “Devils Right Hand” and “Someday”. This is what I had expected, a 13 time Grammy nominated songwriter, with a mouth harp and his guitar, blasting out hits about women and drugs. Then I realized about 2 songs into the set that there was a DJ booth set up, stage left. I remember thinking that there must be a fraternity dance party show after this one because that is just weird.

I should have left when I saw the lights go down and Steve moved stage right as to draw attention away from the fat dorky DJ stepping up to the records. And then (sh)IT happened.. About 10 songs into the set, I noticed said DJ strap on big earphones and proceed to lay down some FAT beats while Steve cranked out hillbilly country songs over top of it. I also noticed that the DJ (DJ Ronald MacDonald I think was his name) play air guitar behind Mr. Earle and mouth the words to the songs. WTF.

I will say one thing for DJ Clown Food, he really knew how to push the “start beats” and “stop beats” button better than anyone I have ever seen.
I left DJected. Im glad I didnt pay 25 bucks to see probably the dumbest show of the year.
